is so unorthodox,
it is unseen by most all
even in plain sight!"

FAST & EASY Book Club
Monday, January 2nd (cancelled!) & 16th, 2011 from 6pm-7pm
--First and third Mondays of each month!--
Everyone knows that reading is sexy. Sometimes the masses have even found books to be TOO sexy-- and have banned them, or worse, relegated them to secondary reading lists <gasp!>. Who better to curate a selection of books often overlooked because of prevelant erotic themes than local author and burlesque dancer Meghan Jones?  Oh, and these selections'll be perfect for the "Lazy Arse's" of the last sea-themed round; they're 'fast', so only around 200 pages!

January's book: "Story of O" by Pauline Reage
*Because we're forgoing the first session due to the holiday, we'll be discussing the whole novel on the 16th!*
(Full Reading List)

Third Friday PIE Social
Friday, January 20th, 2012 from 7pm-9pm
--Every third Friday--
We put the question to our loyal social media followers: Do we keep the ice cream socials through the winter, or do we mix it up a bit? After a slew of great suggestions-- we learned that PHOENIX LOVES PIE! So if you missed the live music on First Friday, or the art reception on Second Friday, this is your THIRD chance to come check out all the great new local work this month! (Oh! And we're taking suggestions! I'm thinking I might try a Peach Habaneroberry!)

Knife Sharpening Demonstration with Lee Zierten!
Sunday, January 22nd, 2012 from 2pm-4pm
--snacks and refreshments will be served--
We know for sure that some of you received the wonderful gift of Lee Zierten cutlery for the holidays-- so how would you like to meet the craftsman himself and learn how to care for these pieces so they can last a lifetime? Learn about the do's and dont's, the oils and honers, and experience firsthand the benefits of choosing locally crafted wares. Free and open to the public, no RSVPs necessary.

Fourth Friday: swirl.sniff.sip.

EXCEPT THIS ONE! We will be hosting an evening of fundraising for The Greyhound Pets of Arizona. But please come back and catch Jessica for February's swirl.sniff.sip. event!
Accompany Certified Sommelier Jessica Fleming of
Clink! Wine Education and Entertainment on a journey of the senses. These tastings and dialogues will offer tips on how to identify and discuss characteristics of your favorite wines, and as Jessica says, "Wine tasting isn't so much about whetting your whistle as it is about exploring the world through your senses from the comfort of your own space." Come explore with us! Each session is different!

Practical Art's Web Store LAUNCH PARTY!
Sunday, January 29nd, 2012 from 3pm-6pm
--snacks and refreshments will be served--

We can’t let our brick & mortar space feel like an ugly stepchild because we’ve launched a shiny brand new web store—so let’s celebrate the launch with a good old fashioned shindig at our physical locale (let the ol’ gal know she’s loved!)!  Mix, mingle, snack, and imbibe for the first hour, but be sure to be settled in at 4pm sharp for the start of Internet the Game Show, a live variety show that takes what we all encounter on the world wide web and turns it into an interactive game for fun and prizes! And then, what would a web store launch be without a REAL LIVE LAUNCH? Whaaaat? That’s right! A ROCKET LAUNCH COMPETITION! Huzzah! (And with all the contests, I’m sure there’ll be a Practical Art gift card or two floating around…) So come celebrate our new internet presence with us!

March 2012

"staring down Andy" by Bryn Corbett
Exhibition: March 1st-31st, 2012
Reception: Friday, March 9th from 7pm-9pm
--Snacks and refreshments will be served!--
In the 60's, Andy Warhol captured nearly 500 video portraits of some of the brightest stars passing through The Factory, his 47th st. atelier. The subjects of Warhol's screen tests would speak, wink, lick their lips, brush their teeth, cry, and present various other idiosyncracies.  Half a century later, eons in technological advancements, local artist Bryn Corbett is paring down the format. By capturing video in high speed HD 1080p, even a still subject staring calmly into the camera will reveal themselves, their strengths and their vulnerabilities.
