Porcelain covered in gold PVD

20" H x  9" D

The form came for this piece started from a smaller bonsai that was carved out of plaster, 3-d scanned, digitally stretched, 3d printed. That 3d print was taken to Jingdezhen China and made into molds and cast in porcelain. The glazed surface is then covered in gold PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) a way to cover ceramic materials in a thin film of metal inside of a heated vacuum chamber. After this, we put the piece back into the kiln and refired it which gives the metal an ombre appearance.
