"The Silver Point Drawings of Jason Hugger"Exhibition: May 1st- May 31st, 2013
Reception for the Artist: First Friday May 3rd, 7-9pm
Jason Hugger is a painter and draftsman working in the genre of surrealism. "The Silver Point Drawings of Jason Hugger" is a series of works made on a prepared surface using sharpened silver wire. Of this collection, he says, “Drawing for me is an exploration. When I draw a still-life I am not just describing the objects in front of me, but I am also exploring the scene as if I were going there in person. By using extremes in scale and perspective, I create drama in my drawings, bringing the viewer into the picture plane.”

The delectables (made by our favorite sister/helper Karen Olson of Vonceil's Pies) have previously included Hipster Apple, Pear Cardamom, Banana Peanut Butter Cream, and Strawberry Jalapeno. Bring your own plate or pick up a handmade one on the spot to keep things eco-conscious!
This month all donations, and 10% of all sales during the event, will be donated to Soroptimist International of Phoenix

"True Value" by Samantha PaceExhibition: June 1st- June 30th, 2013
Reception for the Artist: First Friday June 7th, 7-9pm
Artist Samantha Pace brings elements of impressionism through the realms of camera work and craft work and comes out on the other side with bright, textural abstracts that exemplify her love of color and movement of line. She begins by using a photographic transferring process to print her own atmospheric photography onto fabric. That imagery then becomes the template for an overlying network of colorful dashes in embroidery floss, fragmenting the image.

Socrates Cafe Philosophical Discussion Group

Don't be afraid...you don't need to know anything about philosophy. Socrates Cafe is a way to participate in (or observe) an in-person, engaging conversation between actual humans. It's a dying art, so throw away your cell phones and join us! Anyone and everyone is welcome to chat, listen, or shop!

Meet at Practical Art from 6pm-7pm for a "gettin' a good start" happy hour, and then join us as we bike/rail/carpool outta here at 7 o' clock for an arts adventure at some of our favorite local culture hotspots.
