FREE and open to the
public and enjoy some refreshments courtesy of Practical Art.
Some notes:
1. Bring in a rinsed out wine bottle to participate in
this project. Or, we'll probably have some extras laying around
too. ; )
2. Ray will show you some of the fundamental steps involved in
cutting the top off a glass bottle, and then we will provide you with wet
sandpaper to smooth the sharp edge that results. However, please
note that you probably will not wind up with a usable drinking glass, like Ray
makes. His process involves high firing to melt the rim of the
glass which then requires annealing the glass in a kiln.
3. When you are done, you will have a glass that can be used as a vase, a
votive/candleholder, or perhaps a pencil cup.
4. Feel free to bring as many wine bottles as you have
saved up if you'd like to donate them to Ray's business. He
will turn them into drinking glasses and you might see them for sale at
some point in the future! This is better than tossing them in a recycling
bin. Ray is currently diverting about 3,000 bottles a week
from the landfill - wanna help?
5. Because there will open flame and cut glass at this event,
there is a small possibility you might injure yourself.
Please have fun - but be careful!
